Dear Friends,
Prayer Tuesday 20th May
Get out your bibles! What links 1Timothy2 V1Phillipians4V4and James 1V51? Each touches 0on an aspect of prayer – Talking to God, Thanking God and listening to God. We were reminded of the importance of prayer in the Old Testament, to Jesus and in the early church in our study led by Rev Janet Whelan from Bridlington. We learned so much about personal and corporate prayer, our needs and attitude and the needs of others.
Resources, books, ideas were all touched upon in her full and interesting evening on the subject of prayer. Music, the daily newspaper, candles, the holding cross, icons, prayer beads were just some of the ideas given us. A topic which seems simple but can be complicated, can be easy or can be difficult was put before us in all its aspects. So than you to Janet and to her husband Des who was chauffeur, technical assistant and reader for coming to be with us. I leave you with the first verse of hymn 557 with which Janet started her talk
Prayer is the soul’s
sincere desire,
Uttered or unexpressed
The motion of a hidden fire
That trembles in the breast.
Yours in Christ,
Judith
