Advent 4 Four candles are lit.
Leader; One candle in the darkness for hope; the second for the prophets; the third for John the Baptist. The fourth is for Mary who simply and gladly responded to the call of God.
Reader: “Here am I”, said Mary, “I am the Lord's servant. As you have spoken, so be it.”
Prayer: God of the humble, we thank you for choosing Mary and for her readiness and joy in answer to your call. Help us to understand the way of the lowly and to share in the humility through which Christ may be born even in a stable, even in our hearts. The Lord hears our prayer.
All: Thanks be to God. Amen.
Dear Friends,
You may have heard some controversy about last Saturday nights "Strictly Come Dancing". Please be assured there will be no controversy this afternoon at Central Hall. All your favourites from the show, Bruce, Tess, Arlene and Len will be here to entertain you (well Central Halls versions anyway!). All of this plus some special guests including Father Christmas and Baby Jesus welcome you to "Strictly Come Christmas".
Services over Christmas
On Christmas Eve the 12.30pm Lunchtime Service at Central Hall will be a service of lessons and Carols. On Christmas Eve at Selby Street at 11.30pm the communion service will be led by Rev. Luke Smith, the preacher Deacon Peter Ogle. Mr. Allen Kemp will play the organ.
On Christmas day there will be a short service of celebration at 10.30am at Central Hall. Please bring a present to tell us about!
Please note at Central Hall this week, next week and the week after the only service is at 4pm. Services at Selby Street continue at 11am.
New Hymn Resource
The Methodist Church is producing a new Hymn Collection. We are being asked to comment on the choice so far. A list is on the notice board at Central Hall. Pam Runcieman will be sending a response from us, so if you have any comments please pass them to her before 15th January. Thank you.
Lost Hymn Books
A month or so ago we bought some new two volume organ copies of Hymns and Psalms. Although they live in the prayer chapel at Central Hall, sadly they are not there anymore. If anyone has borrowed them and not returned them please do so. Thank you - Luke
