Dear Friends,
A few weeks ago Peter Ogle and I went to the Methodist City Centre Network Conference which met in Derbyshire. There we met other ministers and lay people involved in City Centre and Town centre ministry.
Our first session was a time of reflection. We were encouraged to reflect on where we find God in the city centre environment. We then moved on to how we help others find God.
Some of the sessions were led by Ann Morrisey, the first was entitled Flows, Fear and Faith. The flow of people around our city centre, simply going about their daily routine. To work, Shopping, Going Home, out for a drink etc. How we may engage with them. Fear is often a response to a changing environment. Faith is all about working with God. In the next session she spoke about sacred space in hard places. The idea of “apt liturgy” was raised. Appropriate words at appropriate times. Her final session was about encouraging us to be more like Jesus. Wow!
The general secretary of the Methodist Church, Martyn Atkins led the next session. Methodism – fit for purpose? In this session he highlighted some of the challenges we are facing and then gave us opportunity to respond.
The vice president of Conference David Walton led our final session “Lets be legally positive” He highlighted some of the changes taking place from a legal point of view and how we may embrace these changes in a positive way.
All of this plus, prayer, fellowship and communion. A wonderful few days of refreshment.
God Bless,
Luke
