Dear friends,

“Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will, put me to suffering; let me be employed for you or laid aside for you”

Today both churches hold their covenant services. Again we will wholeheartedly offer ourselves to God. God will then use us as God sees fit. Perhaps God is calling you to give up something you have been doing for many years. Perhaps God is calling you to do something else. Does any of this strike a chord?

Again I am appealing for someone to act as treasurer at Central Hall. Ian has fulfilled this role for many years and has said he would be happy to pass this role on. It is a vital role in the life of the church, a challenging and rewarding role all at the same time. Why not have a word with Ian and he will fill you in.

This afternoon at Central Hall, we commission our pastoral visitors. Again a challenging and rewarding role. A pastoral visitor acts as a friendly face and a listening ear to our members as they visit them, both those who worship regularly and those who no longer do so. Please pray for the visitors as they go about their work. Perhaps you feel you can offer something in this way? If so have a word with me or indeed any of the existing visitors.

The pastoral visitors receive membership tickets to give to members as they visit them in the coming weeks. If you are not already a “member” have you ever thought about becoming a member? Perhaps you have never been asked? Becoming a member is not the same as becoming a Christian although membership may be a declaration of faith. Membership for you may be a case of publicly declaring this is where you belong. The church that simply feels like home for you. By showing commitment to the church in this way, you will be eligible to be elected to join the decision making bodies of the church. Perhaps as you make the covenant promise today God is calling you to make a commitment to Selby Street or Central Hall. Have a work with Peter O or me.

May God bless you richly is 2009.

On the move...
