Dear friends,

Last Sunday afternoon I’m sure you will agree we had a wonderful time at Selby Street. We marked the 60th Anniversary of Miss Margaret Bielby becoming a Local Preacher. In 1949 she became an accredited preacher.

The service was led by our Local Preachers meeting secretary Mrs. Judith Edwards. The preacher was Rev. Stephen Burgess, Chair of the York and Hull district. Lessons were ready by Deacon Peter Ogle and myself, Rev. Luke Smith.

The service included hymns that Margaret had chosen, an anthem by the Central Hall choir and a sermon on the call of God. The highlight of the service for me was the presentation of a 60 year certificate in a frame to Margaret by Mrs. Mary Jackman the district Local Preachers secretary. Margaret was then given the opportunity to respond.

She said when someone suggested she preach she said she had not known a lady local preacher before. She also stressed that the focus of the service should not be on her but on God, who called her to this ministry.

The afternoon ended with refreshments.

I would simply like to thank all of those involved in making the afternoon run so smoothly. An examination of the plan indicates our next 60 years celebration of a preachers calling will be in 2034, please mark it in your diary!

God Bless,

Luke.
