Dear friends

The latest of Central Halls songs of praise services is this evening where some members of the choir share with us a little of their story and favourite music.

On the theme of music, readers may be interested to hear what happened at this years Methodist Conference about the proposed new hymn book. As was reported in the Methodist recorder on 9th July plans are on course to continue after Conference rejected calls to scrap the project.

Representatives in Wolverhampton also voted that the new book – which looks set to be produced in printed and digital form – should be complemented by an electronic “rolling resource” of commended material and/or regularly updated online resources on the Church’s web site.

The debate was sparked after several memorials were sent to Conference asking for the project to be revisited due to concerns about expense, relevance and whether a new hymn-book was something the Church actually needed.

They came in response to the latest “Singing the Faith” report which was presented in Wolverhampton by the Music Resources Group (MRG).

The Conference agreed to receive the report after debate on various expectations of the hymn-book.

The report was introduced by the Rev Barbara Bircumshaw (Northampton, but speaking as chair, Music

Resources Group) who spoke about the response to the 2007 Conference recommendation for a new hymn selection for the Methodist people for the 21st century, a collection for Methodist worship in succession to “Hymns and Psalms”, bringing together the best music traditions for Methodist congregations.

Readers may recall I suggested we send in comments in January this year.

God Bless,

Luke

Dear Friends in Jesus Christ,
Just to let you know, Driffield Congregational Church are hosting a Gospel Outreach with Helen Shapiro on Friday 25th Sept 09  @ 7.30pm but she will be singing choruses from about 7.10.

We are using the Methodist building in Middle Street North, Driffield.
She will be telling her story of a Jew coming to faith in Jesus and singing some of her Messianic Jewish songs (as well as 'Walking Back to Happiness').
The evening will end with a call to commitment as it is an Evangelistic outreach.
We hope many non-Christians will be brought by Christian friends.
Tickets are £5 each available from local Christian bookshops and from me (Rev Ian Jones 17 Heather Garth Driffield YO25 6UT)
Please note I am away for a few weeks over August.
Please pray for a rich outpouring of God's Blessing upon the outreach and the whole area.
God Bless you all
