Strength Through Adversity (Part 1)
By Richard
As many will be aware, I have been sleeping in the car park at Central Hall for the last 8 wks or so.
Although it has been at times very testing, it has been enlightening in many ways.
The first time I met Luke, he apologised for waking me up as he needed to get by to open the door. I was blocking the entrance yet Luke apologised for waking me! I slept in the opposite corner from then on!
Being homeless; in my sleeping bag or packing up my belongings and bedding in the morning, many people would walk past and see me every day on their way to work or town centre shops. Some would put their heads down and walk faster; some make a joke with their mates and have a laugh at my misfortune. Others would wave or have a kind word, even stop to enquire how I was, or just a simple “Good Morning.” The Good Samaritan if you like?
Through those 8 weeks or so, I have sought peace, patience and perseverance
through our Lord, Jesus Christ. Through prayer, praise during services and reading my Bible I have been able to overcome the anger, frustrations and at times; despair, through the grace of God.
I have become closer to him than ever and my faith become stronger through adversity, and from friends here at central hall whom I take great encouragement through your strength of belief and faith in Our Lord.
I never begged nor stolen (as many think as they walk by I’m sure) as the Lord has provided me with shelter, kept me from hunger and clothed me, through his own people, those amongst you and others too. It has been a truly humbling experience, one I shall never forget nor the people so kind in word, spirit and deeds. I care not for pity, grateful fro what I have as there are so many much worse off than me, suffering a great deal more and I remember them in my prayers each day. to be continued next week
