Dear friends,
Now we are in the month of August many people will be thinking of a summer break, but many activities here at Central do continue. The usual services, on Wednesday and Sundays, Children’s activities and of course this bulletin.
Looking ahead to next month I would like to bring your attention to the Consultation on Worship. This is an open meeting open to all where we discuss the worship at Central Hall. I have been disappointed by the attendance and effectiveness of this meeting, I’m afraid it has not been the best use of my time. I would really like you to make a note of 16th September in your diary the meeting is a t 7.30pm at the manse.
Ever farther ahead thinking of November, I am planning a church family trip, which is for everyone on, Saturday 8th November. Eden Camp, near Malton will be our destination. It is timed to coincide with Remembrance Sunday. We will leave Central at 10am and return mid afternoon. Depending on numbers the trip including admission is likely to cost £12. I have put a notice on the board and would like to ask that people, at this stage put their name on the board, so that I can gauge interest.
As you read last week I certainly enjoyed the friendship club trip, so why not come along to this one?

Last weekend was our summer 24 hours of prayer, Thank you to Dorothy Smith who sat the whole event with me. We had 23 people come which is positive as it has increased each time. The rewarding thing this time was that most who came are on the edge of the Church. We had a seaside theme so played with sand and considered the grains too numerous to count just as Gods love for us is immeasurable. We dropped stones into water as we asked God's cleansing with worries, concerns or sins. The challenge was to have Jesus as our lighthouse to be our guiding light, and for us to be the lower lights on the habour, do we work with Jesus reflected him in our everyday actions as we are His hands, feet, ears and voice in everyday life? There are so many people who do not know Jesus and many who are aware of Him but feel unable to talk with Him, we must get across the message of how simple and wonderful prayer is. I had some 12 - 14 year olds talk to me as I attached the banner outside, I took an ice-cream out to them and invited them to do a prayer, which they wrote down and placed in a box, later they came inside with some friends, who also wanted to write prayers (and have ice-cream). Later still two more young people came who know me slightly through our Angel events and also left a prayers. The following morning I felt I should read the prayers, which I was expecting to be something like 'you geeks', or 'ta for the ice-cream'. But instead I was moved to tears by the words they had written, the longings they had all revelled from their hearts. It struck me that God must constantly agonise over all the prayers that are not said!
We will be doing the next prayer marathon at the end of Oct, giving God good valve as we will be there 25 hours for 24 due to the clock change, please put it in your diaries and consider joining us.
