Dear friends,
Last week Luke and I had a day out together. On a misty day we went to Harrogate to a meeting of the Methodist City Centre Network. The aims of this network are to promote and develop the role of the city centre ministry to recognize and encourage good practice in this ministry and support those engaged in this work. Luke and Peter attend these bi – annual meetings because of their great concern and passion for city centre work – and their job is often a very lonely one. Work at Central may be unique in Hull but not in the country and so we heard of work being done in Harrogate town centre. Harrogate is a town we regard as posh, yet loneliness, alienation, material and spiritual need are there in its heartland. Alongside this is the involvement of the central chapel in the commercial and civic life of the city and the need to alter and adapt a nineteenth century building; and different denominations work together and complement one another in the work to care for God’s people.
This picture should sound familiar and it is to be seen in some three dozen Methodist churches in city centres. By meeting with and contacting people connected with these we can only benefit, as we look to our future. I am grateful for the chance to learn a little about the network and share it with you.

Christian Book Shop in the Bank
A Note to confirm a rumour you might have heard in connection with a Christian Book and Bible shop being set up in the building adjacent to Methodist Central Hall, King Edward Street, Hull.
It’s an exciting sequence of events that can only be of God that started July 08 which has brought us to within days of opening, which actual day we do not know, as we are still setting things in place.
